Panama Canal - third set of locks

The new third set of locks consists of two lock complexes located at each end of the Panama Canal, on the Atlantic and Pacific sides respectively.

The existing Canal consists of two "lanes" of lock chambers to allow two ships to cross the isthmus simultaneously in either direction; hence "Two sets of locks". The new construction will add a new lane; a "third set of locks" for ships of Post Panamax size.
