History
The Sociedad Anónima de Caminos y Regadíos started its journey as a small contractor. Three and a half decades later, it has become a leading company, an example in the P3, services, and construction industries. From its birth, Sacyr has always looked for excellence through innovation, promotion of the best talent, teamwork, and sustainability. These are the key drivers of a company project that sticks to its principles: commitment, excellence, and team spirit. Over the course of these 35 years, Sacyr has spoken through the projects that it has developed in the P3, construction, and services areas. Such is the case, for example, of the Third Set of locks of the Panama Canal, our greatest challenge to date. This megastructure cuts down the CO2 yearly emissions by 160 million tons and saves 60% of the water used. Over these three decades and a half, we have built more than 3,900 km of highways, 1,760 km of roads, 70 km of tunnels, and more than 150 km of viaducts.
Sacyr has built many bridges, but one of the most outstanding is the Pumarejo bridge, over the Magdalena river in Barranquilla, Colombia, 2,173 m long and with a 31.1 m deck. Ever since its commissioning in 2019, it has become one of the most emblematic pieces of infrastructure in Latin America.
We are specialists in the hospital sector; we have created more than 10,000 hospital beds for healthcare centers all over the world: Asturias Central University Hospital, Spain; Antofagasta Hospital, Chile; Tláhuac Hospital, Mexico; Braga Hospital, Portuga.
We have built singular buildings like the Sacyr Tower in Madrid, that has changed the skyline of the city; the Basílica de Fátima, Ourém, and the Casa da Música, Oporto, both in Portugal.
We are leaders in water treatment, potabilization, desalination, and purification technologies. Our desalination plant in Perth, Australia, has been recognized as one of the most innovative in the world.
